An improvement of the Space-Time Image Velocimetry combined with a new denoising method for estimating river discharge

The Space-Time Image Velocimetry (STIV) is a time-averaged velocity measurement method, which takes river surface images as the analysis object, and detects Main Orientation of Texture (MOT) in generated (STI) to obtain one-dimensional velocities on water surface. STIV has great potential real-time monitoring flow owing its high spatial resolution low time complexity. However, STI contains lot noise interference texture, inevitable practical applications. practicality severely limited by low-quality STI. To solve this problem, denoising method based filtering technology proposed combined with different texture detection algorithms paper. accuracy verified through comparative field experiment an impellor-style current meter. experimental results show: (1) By using new robustness are significantly improved no matter what kind algorithm adopted; (2) Among all algorithms, FFT-based performs best. relative errors controlled within 6%, discharges ±4%.
